Sigurd Anderson

Sigurd Anderson

Sigurd "Sig" Anderson is Director of Critical Environments for IDC Architects, a division of the global project delivery firm CH2M HILL. He has more than 30 years of experience in design, engineering, and construction project management for advanced technology facilities and infrastructure. Over the last decade he has worked with the world¿s leading technology companies to develop next generation data center technology, first-of-kind high performance compute facilities, national security data centers and cloud compute data centers. His project experience also encompasses microelectronics manufacturing, telecommunications and electrical power generation. Sig has managed the expansion of broadband networks and communication facilities in the US, Europe, and Canada. Sig is a licensed Professional Engineer and LEED Accredited Professional (AP). He obtained his M.S in electrical engineering from the University of Portland, and B.S. in electrical engineering from Montana State University. For fun, Sig enjoys bicycling, rafting, skiing, fishing/hunting and photography around the West.

Deva Bodas

Deva Bodas

Deva Bodas is a Principal Engineer and the lead architect for server power management at Intel. He has a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and has 30 years of working in computer and communication industry. Deva had envisioned power thermal issues with servers 12 years ago and successfully convinced Intel to make energy efficiency and power capping a priority for server systems. Today Deva focuses on technology development for server power management at the platform, rack and datacenter level. Deva has been issued 18 patents, and has been speaker at various conferences such as Intel Developer conference, 7x24 Exchange, AFCOM, and Critical Facilities Round Table.

Kevin Brown

Kevin Brown

Kevin Brown is Vice President, Data Center Global Offer for Schneider Electric.

Kevin leads a team of industry professionals to develop and bring to market solutions for the data center market. In this role, he has responsibility to articulate the vision for Schneider Electric's data center offer and create comprehensive data center solutions that solve real customer problems today.

He is an experienced industry professional in both the IT and HVAC industry. Kevin has over 20 years experience at Schneider Electric in a variety of senior management roles including product development, product management, marketing, and sales.

He also holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Cornell University.

Ed Downey

Ed Downey

Ed Downey has been with JE Dunn for almost 12 years, and in the construction industry for 20 years. He focuses entirely on engineering services for data center projects. Ed has worked on over 100 data center projects while at JE Dunn Construction. Ed completed his Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and Management from Kansas State University in 1993. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Computer Engineering from University of Missouri at Kansas City, completed in 2010. Ed is a certified Master Electrician. Ed’s projects have won over 50 awards both locally and nationally.

Brent Elieson

Brent Elieson

Brent Elieson has 25 years of professional experience managing IT groups. His work experience includes the leading network manufacturer, a fortune 50 retailer, an S&P500 financial institution and is currently employed at a PAC12 University and hospital. His responsibilities have included overseeing all IT activities as well as core business units. He has built and managed over a dozen data centers over his career and has recently completed a 5MW facility. Brent’s education is in electrical engineering, computer science and finance. He is currently working on his second master’s degree in Information Security.

Steve Fairfax

Steve Fairfax

Steve Fairfax is President of MTechnology, Inc., consulting engineers specializing in power system engineering for demanding 21st century enterprises. MTech's clients include manufacturers, designers, and users of power systems for the 7x24 world. MTech performs Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) of data center power and cooling systems, LNG liquefaction facilities, and hazardous process industries. MTech engineers conduct reliability analyses, failure investigations, failure modes and effects analyses, and provide expert testimony in patent, customs, and personal injury litigation. MTech develops and demonstrates highly reliable power systems for fuel cell power plants, battery replacements, DC microgrids, magnetic levitation track and vehicles, ore transportation systems, and semiconductor processing applications.

Steve joined MTech in 1997, but he has been working with multi-megawatt power systems since his undergraduate days at MIT. He began full-time study of power system reliability while working as Managing Engineer at Failure Analysis Associates. He served as head of Engineering and Operations for the Alcator C-MOD nuclear fusion reactor during its design and initial operation at the MIT Plasma Fusion Center, and as principal engineer in several Boston-area firms. Steve holds Master's Degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Physics from MIT.

David Filas

David Filas

Dave Filas is a Data Center Engineer with Trinity Health, a healthcare company operating 47 hospitals in nine states. He is responsible for uninterrupted operation of the 25+ data centers coast to coast which support the hospitals, as well as design efforts in both new data center constructions and renovations. Dave received a Master of Science in Information Technologies from Capella University, and a Master of Science in Construction Management from Eastern Michigan University.

Harry Handlin

Harry Handlin

Harry Handlin is thedirector ofcritical power applications GE Energy Management’s Industrial Solutions business. A GE heritage business, Industrial Solutions is leading the future of electrification with advanced technologies that distribute electricity, as well as protect and control a facility's electrical infrastructure. The business provides customers across various industries with end-to-end product and service solutions that ensure the reliability and protection of the electrical infrastructure.

Harry has global responsibility for providing providing technical and application support of electrical distribution products and industrial Services as well as integrating other GE businesses to serve the data center vertical segment. He also collaborates with product management and technology teamsto develop new products for the data center market.

He is currently the technical committee chairman for The Green Grid; a non-profit, open industry consortium of end-users, policy-makers, technology providers, facility architects and utility companies. The main goal of the organization is to improve resource efficiency of data centers and business computing ecosystem. The Green Gridprovides metrics and tools to evaluate efficiency in data centers along with white papers and case studies.

Harrygraduated from Auburn University with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. He and his family reside in Birmingham, Alabama.

Paul Hsu, P.E.

Paul Hsu, P.E.

Paul Hsu has over 25 years of experience in various high tech industries including datacenter design and construction, semiconductor fabs, aeronautic/aerospace, and utility substations.   He joined Facebook in early 2011 as a Senior Electrical Engineer and has managed the design and construction of new datacenter facilities and involved in the R&D of new datacenter technology and applications.  Prior to joining Facebook, Paul was the Director of IBX Electrical Engineering at Equinix, where he was responsible forthe design, construction and commissioning of highly reliable and energy efficient colocation datacenters.Paul earned a BSEE from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and a MSEE from Santa Clara University.  He is a registered professional electrical engineer and a senior member of IEEE.

Lee Kaiser, P.E., F.P.E.

Lee Kaiser

Lee’s professional career and personal life has always revolved around fire protection in one way or another. For 15 years he has acted as a volunteer firefighter, and currently volunteers in Kentucky. In 2001, he graduated with a degree in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University. Today, Lee is a Professional Engineer in both fire protection and mechanical engineering in several states, and holds the position of Engineering Manager for ORR Protection Systems. He is a principal member of the NFPA Technical Committee on Electronic Computer Systems (NFPA 75) and is a frequent speaker and presenter for seminars, workshops and conferences across the country. Lee is married, has two daughters and lives in Louisville, Kentucky.

Joe Kava is Google's Sr. Director of datacenter engineering, delivery and critical facility operations. Joe has extensive data center leadership experience including being COO at a privately held colocation provider in California. He previously spent 17 years in the Semiconductor industry at Applied Materials in various executive roles in product engineering, operations, and general management. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Engineering from Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo.

James Kennedy

James Kennedy

Jim Kennedy is currently Director of Critical Facility Engineering, where he is responsible for engineering and operational oversight for RagingWire Data Centers. Since joining RagingWire, he has completed engineering, construction and operations on two data centers in California and is overseeing the build out of another RagingWire data center facility in Ashburn, VA. He has also completed over a dozen major energy efficiency and green computing programs, saving over 8,000,000 kWh in the last year and reducing annualized average PUE from 1.80 to 1.37 on a legacy data center and projected PUEs on new data centers of 1.30 to 1.35, including earning the EPA Energy Star rating for data centers. Prior to joining RagingWire in Sacramento, Jim served in the United States Naval Nuclear Submarine Force as a Lieutenant Commander on several fast attack submarines. Jim received a B.S. in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dan Lee, P.E.

Daniel Lee is a registered professional engineer and LEED AP BD+C with 7 years of mission critical HVAC consulting experience at Glumac, in San Francisco, and Environmental Systems Design, in Chicago.  His project experience includes schematic design through construction administration of datacenters, from small facilities in high rise buildings to large greenfield developments.  He joined Facebook in spring of 2010 as a Datacenter Mechanical Engineer and has been managing the design and construction of new datacenter facilities, energy efficiency retrofits of existing sites, and providing facilities operations support to the datacenter management team.

Mark Martyak

Mark Martyak is a Registered Professional Electrical Engineer and has served utilities and large energy users for the past thirty two years. Mark holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration from University of Pittsburgh, Purdue University and Tennessee State University. Mark specializes in Distributed Generation Systems. He has consulted with over 100 utilities and 500 mission critical facilities nationally and has served as Engineer of Record for over 800 MWs of Distributed Generation Projects. Mark’s experience also includes an emphasis on integrating DG technology with code required standby power systems.

Mark helped found PowerSecure, Inc. in 2000, a turnkey provider of Distributed Generation and serves as DG Group President for this industry leading NASDAQ Public Company (POWR). Mark also serves as Chairman of the Board for the Hope for Haiti Foundation, a Not for Profit Charitable Organization and is an Elder of Hope Community Church in Raleigh, NC.

Bernardo Mendez

Bernardo Mendez

Bernardo Mendez serves as product manager for Active Power’s high efficiency UPS product line, responsible for product planning, development, and marketing. A well respected and skilled strategist in the data center infrastructure and energy storage space, Mendez has more than 15 years of domestic and international product management and operational experience. Prior to Active Power, Mendez served as marketing manager at 3M working closely with their Smart Grid and Power Quality Strategies teams and before this was product manager at Eaton Corp. in their Electrical Division. While at Eaton, Mendez managed the organization’s 200 to 1000 kVA UPS platform for both transformer based and transformerless UPS product lines. Mendez earned a master’s in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Technology Institute of Higher Learning (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico.

Zanny Minton-Beddoes

Zanny Minton-Beddoes

Zanny Minton-Beddoes is The Economist’s economic editor, overseeing all of the prestigious publication’s American and global economics coverage. She is responsible for coverage of the American economy, economic policy, and issues surrounding globalization. Before moving to Washington in April 1996, Minton-Beddoes was The Economist’s emerging-markets correspondent based in London. She has written surveys of the World Economy, Latin American finance, global finance and Central Asia.

Minton-Beddoes joined The Economist in 1994 after spending two years as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Before joining the IMF, she worked as an adviser to the Minister of Finance in Poland, as part of a small group headed by Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Harvard University. Minton-Beddoes has written extensively about the American economy and international financial policy. She has published in Foreign Affairs and Foreign Policy, and has testified before Congress on the introduction of the euro.

Minton-Beddoes is a regular commentator on Marketplace (NPR). She has also appeared on CNN, MacNeil-Lehrer Newshour, CNBC, and Public Interest. She is a trustee of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and a member of the Research Advisory Board of the Committee for Economic Development.

Minton-Beddoes is also the winner of one of the highest honors a journalist can receive – a 2012 Gerald Loeb Award for her and her colleague’s coverage of the euro zone crisis in The Economist.

David Mulholland

Dave Mulholland

Dave Mulholland, VP Marketing, Service at Power Distribution, Inc. (PDI), has been in the mission-critical power distribution business for over twelve years. Dave speaks regularly at industry events held by 7x24 Exchange, Datacenter Dynamics, AFCOM, TCC and other data center and facilities management organizations on various topics including branch circuit monitoring systems, overhead bus distribution, and modular data centers. Before joining PDI, Dave served as a general manager for United Technologies, Otis Elevator division, and received his MBA from the University of Virginia. Dave has served on the Board of Directors for the Potomac Chapter of AFCOM for the past eight years and presently holds the President position. Dave has also recently been involved with starting up the Central Virginia 7x24 chapter in Richmond, Virginia, and serves on the Board of this group.

Suhas V. Patankar, Ph.D.

Suhas V. Patankar, Ph.D.

Dr. Suhas V. Patankar is the founder and president of Innovative Research, Inc. For the last 25 years, he has also worked as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. His research activities include the development of computational techniques for fluid flow and heat transfer and their application to industrial problems. Suhas has authored or co-authored four books on the subject, published over 100 papers, advised 35 completed Ph.D. theses and lectured extensively in the USA and abroad. Dr. Patankar's teaching and research contributions have been recognized by a number of awards. For excellence in teaching, he received the 1983 George Taylor Distinguished Teaching Award and the 1989-90 Morse-Alumni Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education. For his research contributions to computational heat transfer, he was given the 1991 ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award and the 1997 Classic Paper Award. He has just been selected for the 2008 Max Jakob Award, which is considered to be the highest honor in the field of heat transfer.

David Schirmacher

David Shirmacher

David Schirmacher is Senior Vice President and Head of Technical Operations for Digital Realty Trust, responsible for technical operations, uptime and reliability of Digital Realty’s global portfolio of data center properties. Prior to joining Digital Realty, David was Chief Strategy Officer of FieldView Solutions, a software firm that develops management and operational software solutions for the mission critical industry. He is a globally recognized leader in the mission critical field having designed and constructed high-performance data centers, trading facilities, and corporate headquarters serving the technology and financial services sectors for nearly 30 years. Prior to his time at FieldView, David was Vice President and Global Head of Engineering and Critical Systems for Goldman Sachs & Company. During his nearly 12 years at Goldman, David directed engineering design, execution, commissioning and transitioned to operations projects throughout the US, EMEA and Asia. David is a regular speaker in the mission critical industry and serves on several industry task forces. He is the current President of the 7x24 Exchange International and represents that organization on the EPA/DOE sponsored task force evaluating the metrics for measurement of data center infrastructure performance along with the Green Grid, ASHRAE, SVLG, Uptime Institute and USGBC. He is on the technical advisory board of Mission Critical Magazine, and has been a featured speaker at numerous industry events.

Dave Seger

Dave Seger

Mr. Seger leads the mechanical engineering team for IDC Architects’ mission critical group, with over 25 years of engineering experience supporting critical mission industries, including major data centers and microelectronic manufacturing facilities. Mr. Seger has extensive facility design experience on central plant systems, critical environment airflow management systems, general HVAC systems, process and general exhaust systems, and industrial PLC control system designs. He has overseen the design of mission critical data centers in the US, Europe, and Asia utilizing a variety of cooling architectures including air-side economizers and water-side economizers. Mr. Seger also has experience in high-end compute facilities and has designed air management system that support data center operating in excess of 500W/sq. ft. He has authored articles on data center cooling, holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University and is a registered professional engineer in the States of Oregon, Virginia, and Wyoming.

Mark Siira

Mark Siira

Prior to joining ComRent, Mark Siira had sixteen years of success and progressive responsibility at Kohler Company. Most recently, he was responsible for a new business launch of an inverter and energy storage business. In this role he was responsible for product development, technical leadership, and quality systems. Mark was Director of Applied Technology for Kohler before this entrepreneurial assignment.

Of significance to the data center market, Mark was Director of Switching Systems for the Kohler Power Systems for 8 years. In this role, Siira has P&L responsibility for the paralleling switchgear and systems business and was responsible for sales, marketing, engineering, and manufacturing. He was a leader in the development of IEEE 1547 series of standards on grid interconnection and currently leads work on IEEE 2030 smart gird interoperability. Additionally, Mr. Siira led the development of Distributed Generation strategies and manages business development activities for the Power Systems Division.

Before joining Kohler, Mark worked for Rockwell International’s Automotive Operations.

Mark has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree from GMI Engineering and Management Institute (now Kettering University), and an MBA from Harvard University. He is a senior member of IEEE. He is an officer of the Standards Coordinating Committee 21 which establishes standards for Grid interconnection and smart grid interoperability. He is currently working group chair for IEEE P2030.2 – A Guide for Energy Storage Systems Interoperability with the Electric Power System.

Jim Smith

Jim Smith

Jim Smithis Chief Technology Officerof Digital Realty (NYSE:DLR) and is responsible for overseeing data center development. He joined the company inNovember 2004. Jim and the Digital Realty team have delivered more than 500MW of data center projects totaling more than a billion dollars of capital investment. Smith also leads Digital Realty’s sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives including multiple LEED Platinum, LEED Gold and BREEAM excellent certifications.

For his accomplishment and contributions to the industry, Smith was named one of the top CTOs in the United States by InfoWorld Magazine in 2008.

Jim has 13 years of data developmentexperience, including Chief Technical Officer at Colo.com, Founder and General Manager of ATMnet, which was acquired by Verio in 1997, and General Manager at 360networks.

Jimreceived a BScin Chemistry from Fort Lewis College and his MBA from London Business School.

Amaya Souarez

Amaya Souarez

Over the past 21 years, Amaya Souarez has been working in various roles as an IT professional, starting with PC support in 1988. Her technical roles included support for Unix (SGI, Sun & Intergraph), Netware, NT, DOS and Windows workstation and server platforms, servers, network switches/routers, multiplexers, PBX, CAD platforms and a wide variety of other infrastructure. Prior to joining MS, she was Corporate Systems Manager at Harris Group, Inc. a Seattle-based consulting engineering firm for several years. In 1994, she launched an IT systems consulting sole-proprietorship, and supported more than 50 small and medium businesses in the Seattle area for more than 7 years, gaining valuable business experience. In 2001, she joined MS as an Architecture PM on the Networking team. Currently, Amaya is Director of the DC Strategy & Automation team, within Data Center Services.

Robert Sty

Robert Sty

Rob Sty Rob has practiced in the engineering field for over 15 years, currently serving as the lead of SmithGroup-JJR’s Phoenix, AZ Technologies Studio. Rob has been involved in various levels on many mission critical projects for collocation, enterprise, HPC, and 911 emergency operations facilities. He is a published author, contributing articles to various trade journals. In 2009, he was honored with a Top Forty Under 40 award by Consulting Specifying Engineering Magazine for his contributions to the industry. Rob holds a B.S.M.E. from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a Professional Certificate in Advanced Project Management from Stanford University.

Kevin Timmons

Kevin Timmons

Kevin Timmons joined CyrusOne in October 2011 as Chief Technology Officer. He is responsible for the site selection, design, and construction of CyrusOne’s worldwide data center assets. Previously, he led Microsoft’s global data center team as GM, Data Center Services, where he fundamentally changed the way that the company designed, developed, and operated worldwide data center assets. Under his leadership, Microsoft opened four of the world’s largest data centers. Kevin also has over 10 years’ experience in realtime embedded systems software development with aerospace firms such as Lockheed and Marconi Dynamics. Kevin received his Bachelor of Computer Science Degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana – Champaign.

Sean Thompson For the past 15 years, Sean Thompson, AIA, LEED®AP, has been a Senior Associate and Senior Project Manager at VCBO Architecture. Sean has been a team leader in the design and construction of projects including higher education, mission critical, and civic facilities. His most recent relevant experience includes the University of Utah Data Center and RC Willey Corporate Data Center. Sean is currently working on the design of the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law. Sean has a Masters Degree in Architecture and attended the Denmark International Studies, Royal Academy of Architecture in Copenhagen, Denmark.

John Tuccillo

John Tuchillo

John Tuccillo serves as Vice President of Global Industry and Government Alliances for the IT business at Schneider Electric in West Kingston, RI. In this capacity Mr. Tuccillo is responsible for building collaborative technology and business alliances with key industry leaders, and supports governmental entities and standards bodies on matters of energy in the variety of markets served by ITB worldwide.

John is also a founding board member, President and Chairman of The Board of Directors for The Green Grid, a global IT industry organization dedicated to improving energy efficiency in Data Centers and Business Computing Ecosystems. Mr. Tuccillo has 30 years experience within the IT and manufacturing industries working within the hardware, software, components and services categories.

As the former Chief Technology Officer for Quality Technology Services, he managed strategic development for QTS’ 3.5 million square feet of data centers. As the former International Data Center Developer for Google, he managed Google’s global negotiation of data center contracts and developed Google's data center location strategy. Mr. Tusha also founded MCE, a rivatelyheld data center design, construction and management firm providing operation design and management for the data centers of JPMorgan Chase, HSBC, Deutsche Bank and others.

Bruce Weed

Bruce Weed

Bruce Weed is the Global Program Director of Big Data Business Development and Strategy, which is part of the Information Management brand of the IBM Software Group. Mr. Weed has extensive experience in business development, sales and marketing. Additional skills and experience lie in product and brand management, operational strategy, IT strategy and software development.

Mr. Weed is currently responsible for building and managing strategic partnerships around Big Data for IBM on a worldwide basis.  

Prior to this role, Mr. Weed had worldwide responsibility for Information Management Channel Marketing.  

Mr. Weed gained vast experience leading a team of people as the Worldwide

Internet Channel Manager. This experience provided an entrepreneurial edge that is leveraged in his current role.  Bruce Weed is based out of Somers, NY (IBM’s Software Group Headquarters).

Tyler Wilson

Currently the Director of Mission Critical for Okland Construction. I have worked for 16 years at Okland Construction with the last 10 years heavily in the Mission Critical projects. I have enjoyed growing with the company to become one of the Top 100 Construction companies in the US according to ENR. As project manager in the early part of my career on the BYU-Data Center and America First Federal Credit Union and through the many mission critical projects forward up to and including the U of U Data Center it has been very pleasing to be a part of the development of new data centers and see technology take shape. The challenge of staying on the cutting edge has kept me excited about going to work every day. Graduate of BYU with a BS in Construction Manager and Business Minor. Lived and worked in Utah Most of my life am a licensed General Contractors in 6 states and have performed projects in 15 States.

Married to a wonderful wife with 4 kids who have supported me in my career and have enjoyed getting involved and seeing my projects whichever part of the country they happen to be in.
